Wrapping Heritage Month with APFE at CAAMFest 2024

The Asian Pacific Filmmakers Experience wrapped up AANHPI Heritage Month at CAAMFest 2024, with over 75 filmmakers, industry experts, community leaders and arts organizers gathered together to celebrate the filmmakers at CAAMFest 2024! Co-hosted with local lead partner, the Center for Asian American Media (CAAM), and with delicious food from local caterer EATS BY E, the festive event was held at Four One Nine Gallery in San Francisco on Mother’s Day Sunday.

Opening remarks were made by APFE Organizers David Magdael and Minji Chang, CAAM Executive Director Stephen Gong, and Pacific Islanders in Communications Board Member Tavae Samuelu.

A longtime co-organizer of APFE events dating from the inaugural edition at Park City, Utah in 2002, CAAM’s hosting of the APFE party in San Francisco continues a tradition of supporting and foregrounding cinematic artists of Asian Pacific descent at film festivals throughout the nation. Thank you to the CAAM staff in attendance, including Stephen Gong, Sapana Sakya, Jonathan Hsieh, Ris Tena, Mey Saechao, and Frances Pomperada!

Special thank you to our 2024 APFE partners, The Asian American Foundation (TAAF), Warner Bros. Discovery Access, and NBCUniversal LAUNCH, whose support makes events like this possible.

Noted attendees included ASHIMA filmmakers Kenji Tsukamoto and Minji Chang, Oscar shortlist director Andrew Nadkarni, Hot Docs Impact Award Winner director Jalena Keane-Lee, Producer Corey Tong, Producer QUYÊN NGUYEN-LE; A-DOC administrator LAILANIE GADIA; CAAMFest Executive director THUY TRAN; filmmaker DAKOTA BAILEY VAN-KAREN; Filmmaker LILY QI; San Francisco Film Commissioner JACK SONG; local journalist Sean Au; SFFILM Director of Artist Devlopment Masashi Niwano, Senior Publicist Tommy Tang, and filmmakers Ray Huang, Jean Shim, Harrison Xu, Ivan Leung, Josaen Ronquilio, Spencer Tsang, Eduardo Taylor Iv, Hanna Chen, and Noel Do-Murakami, and more!
