The #APAParkCity “Snowreel” Pictogram

Developed by Visual Communications staffmember Callie Chung for the 2003 edition of #APAParkCity, the distinctive “snowreel” pictogram has graced a wide variety of identity pieces produced for the yearly gathering of Asian Pacific cinematic talents at Park City, from tee shirts, tote bags, postcards, posters, and even beverage tumblers.

Postcard Gallery – Park City Experiences Past

Over the years, the Asian Pacific Filmmakers Experience has heralded the emergence of over 800 Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Asian international cinema artists whose works have been invited to the Sundance or Slamdance Film Festivals. This gallery comprises promotional postcards of all fifteen editions of #APAParkCity to date, placing a well-deserved spotlight on our APA communities’ cinematic artists.

From #APAParkCity 2007: For many years the “main course” of #APAParkCity, the ever-popular “Meet the Filmmakers” Reception at the long-shuttered and sadly-missed China Panda Restaurant provided a place where Committee members insured that artists and supporters alike would get fed with home-style Chinese “comfort food,” as well as the camaraderie of over 300 or so of one’s best old and new friends. In a preview of things to come, #APAParkCity organized its first-ever filmmakers’ panel, “If You Build It, Will They Come? Aspirations for the New Asian American Film Movement” in downtown Park City, UT on January 22, 2007. Panelist Sung Kang, Yul Kwon, Grace Lee, Justin Lin, Suzy Nakamura, Dustin Nguyen, and Janet Yang engaged in a lively discussion moderated by Chi-hui Yang in and effort to brainstorm the next steps on the long road to creative and social enfranchisement for Asian Pacific American cinema artists. From 2016: As part of the 12th edition of the Asian Pacific Filmmakers Experience in Park City, organizers re-instituted filmmaker panels as a means of broadening the discussion of inclusion of Asian Pacific voices in mainstream entertainments arenas as the Sundance and Slamdance Film Festivals.
